Asian Rock Fest 2009

Asians rocking/rapping is not new, however, it's far from the image of America's mainstream music scene. Asian American musicians have been around the rock music scene for quite sometime and still continue to thrive; Japanese hard rock band Loudness, 80's metal guitarist Jake E Lee, alternative vocalist Doug Robb of Hoobastank, and newcomer Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda. Being perpetual foreigners, it's not easy being Asian and breaking beariers into the rock/pop/rap music scene. Not only would you have to overcome society's stigmas, surfice to say, becoming Hsu-Nami (Chinese Fiddle Rock Band) is probably not what mom and dad had planned for their 'baby'.

"The annual Asian Rock Fest comes to San Francisco in 2009. Founded in New York City in 2004, the Asian Rock Fest has been bringing together established Asian American artists from all over the US. It aims to celebrate the annual Asian Heritage Month of May in an in-your-face, louder than your parents' soft jazz fashion. Put down the text books and scream f#@k the stereotypes. THIS is how Asians rock! "
